Man buns and top knots may be the recent hairstyle of choice for hip guys around the country, but you might want to think twice before tossing your luscious locks on top of your head–the style is making men go bald!
Experts are saying the look is causing traction alopecia, which is hair loss caused by the persistent tugging of roots over several hours.
Doctors normally see traction alopecia in women, but the man bun has increased the number of men who now report having a problem.
“I see it probably once or twice a week,” said dermatologist Sabra Sullivan. “They’re putting traction on the hair follicles that the hair is not really meant to take.”
Traction alopecia worsens over time, so it could actually be a couple of years before guys start to see their hair thin.
Don’t say we didn’t warn you!
