Karen is a natural level 6. Originally we did heavy highlights but have worked toward a hand-painted balayage. I lift her base about 2 levels lighter than her natural level so the grow-out is subtle (she goes between 7 & 8 weeks between visits). The balayage highlights are hand-painted with a high lift color (level 12). I don't want to stress her hair any more than necessary. The beautiful thing about "smudging" her base is that it grows out in to the beautiful low-lighs you see in the photos
