Toronto Men’s Fashion Week Hair & Grooming Trends for 2014

Paul Pereira, Schwarzkopf Professional Essential Looks Artist, NAHA 2014 Men’s Hairstylist of the Year and former Contessa Men’s Hairstylist of the Year Award winner, gives us his take on the first-ever Toronto Men’s Fashion Week, and the hairstyling and grooming trends for guys for the coming season.

  • What are the big men’s hair trends you spotted at TOM?

The top trends for 2015 will be all about fringe. (Benji WZW show.) They can be worn edgy or classic, with the back and sides short and sharp, and with heavier and long fringes pushed forward. The quiff is a classic men’s hair grooming trend that it still in for 2015, just a little looser. (Christopher Bates show.) Again, it will be shorter on the back and sides, and be pulled back or have a side part. Ryan Gosling is wearing it now.

  • What was your favourite look from the shows?

I loved the tailored 70’s inspired look, and a neatly trimmed beard. Beards are still in and we are seeing a lot of inspirations from the 70's in fashion and coming into the hair department!

  • How are men’s grooming trends evolving this year?

Guys are not afraid to take chances, experiment and add an edgy twist to a classic look

  • What do stylists need to create these looks?

Whether it's the sleek look or relaxed coif, products to achieve this look include, gels, paste and waxes. A few of my favorites from OSiS are Aqua Slide, Flexwax and Whipped Wax, which has a bit more hold to keep highly stylized looks in place.
